The Menopause Society 2025 Annual Meeting
At The Menopause Society’s 2025 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, experts highlighted advances and ongoing challenges in menopause care, with a focus on individualized, evidence-based management. Presentations included new safety data showing favorable 1-year tolerability of the nonhormonal vasomotor symptom therapy elinzanetant, without liver safety signals, as well as practical guidance on diagnosing and managing vulvar conditions such as genitourinary syndrome of menopause and lichen sclerosus. Investigators also reported that menopause treatment patterns vary substantially by provider specialty, underscoring gaps in training and the need for standardized education across disciplines. Additional data suggested a modestly increased risk of autoimmune disease among postmenopausal women using hormone therapy, reinforcing the importance of personalized risk-benefit discussions. Emerging evidence supporting the levonorgestrel intrauterine device as an option for endometrial protection during estrogen therapy was also reviewed, particularly for women transitioning from perimenopause. Collectively, the sessions emphasized multidisciplinary collaboration, patient-centered counseling, and continued research to optimize health outcomes for women during midlife and beyond.
2025 ACOG Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting
Coverage from the 2025 American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting in Minneapolis highlighted emerging evidence and updated guidance across a wide range of women’s health topics, including pain management, environmental exposures, surgical outcomes, weight management, and menopause care. Key updates included new ACOG guidance advocating individualized, shared decision-making approaches to pain control for in-office uterine and cervical procedures; research linking personal care product use and air pollution exposure during pregnancy to adverse obstetric and mental health outcomes; and real-world data showing improved cesarean wound outcomes and lower costs with lower-pressure negative pressure wound therapy. Expert discussions also addressed evidence-based weight loss management for reproductive-aged patients, including contraceptive considerations, and emphasized personalized, goal-driven menopause care, reinforcing the need for clinician education and patient-centered strategies to optimize outcomes across the reproductive lifespan.
