FDA says “study may proceed” for Vistagen’s refisolone nasal spray for vasomotor symptoms
Published April 22, 2026, this article reported that Vistagen received a “Study May Proceed” letter from the FDA, clearing the path for continued phase 2 development of refisolone, a non-hormonal, non-systemic intranasal candidate for moderate-to-severe menopausal vasomotor symptoms.1 In an earlier exploratory phase 2a trial, refisolone reduced hot flash frequency by 80% compared to 36% for placebo, with improvements observed as early as 1 week and no serious drug-related adverse events reported.1
Shifting treatment expectations in the evolving landscape of female pelvic health
Clinicians discussed how evolving treatment options are reshaping expectations in female pelvic health, covering the spectrum of therapeutic approaches available to patients with pelvic floor disorders.2 Practical clinical perspectives on how providers can guide patients through an increasingly diverse menu of both surgical and non-surgical options.2
FDA approves 5-year use for etonogestrel implant 68 mg contraceptive
Published January 19, 2026, this article covered the FDA’s approval of a supplemental NDA extending the duration of use for the etonogestrel implant (Nexplanon; Organon) from 3 years to up to 5 years.3 The decision was supported by a multicenter, single-arm, open-label study (NCT04626596) in which no pregnancies were reported during years 4 and 5 of use, with a Pearl Index of 0.0 pregnancies per 100 women-years (95% CI: 0.00–0.69) and no new safety findings identified.3

Global consensus renames PCOS to polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS)
Published May 12, 2026, this article covered a landmark health policy published in The Lancet, in which a global consensus process involving 56 academic, clinical, and patient organizations — and more than 14,300 survey respondents — formally renamed polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS).5 The new name was adopted to address longstanding concerns that “PCOS” was a misnomer, misleadingly implying pathological ovarian cysts while obscuring the condition’s broader endocrine and metabolic features.5
FDA clears ENDO-205 investigational new drug application for endometriosis
On March 23, 2026, the FDA cleared an Investigational New Drug application for ENDO-205 (EndoCyclic Therapeutics), a first-in-class, non-hormonal targeted peptide therapeutic in development for endometriosis — a disease affecting more than 190 million girls and women worldwide — with a phase 1 clinical study among premenopausal women planned to follow.6 According to the company, ENDO-205 is the first therapy in development designed to eliminate endometriosis lesions and address associated symptoms, including pain and systemic complications.6
Romosozumab increased bone density in postmenopausal women regardless of age
Published February 25, 2026, this article covered a prospective observational study published in Bone finding that older age did not diminish bone mineral density (BMD) response to romosozumab in postmenopausal women, with a mean BMD increase of 9.16% at the lumbar spine and 3.00% at the total hip after 12 months of therapy.7
Instead, lower baseline BMD, particularly at the total hip, was the factor independently associated with greater treatment response, supporting the use of romosozumab across a broad age range in routine clinical practice.7
Wearable device designed for perimenopause launches
This April 2, 2026, news item reported on the commercial launch of a wearable device specifically designed for perimenopausal women, entering a growing digital health market focused on the menopause transition. NIRVANA: Elinzanetant cuts objective wakefulness in menopausal women
Published June 17, 2026, this article covered findings from the exploratory phase 2 NIRVANA trial (NCT06112756) presented at SLEEP 2026 in Baltimore, which found that elinzanetant (Lynkuet) produced a numerically greater reduction in PSG-measured wakefulness after sleep onset (WASO) compared with placebo in postmenopausal women with vasomotor symptoms and objectively confirmed sleep disturbance.10
The effect was most pronounced at week 4, with a 28% greater reduction in WASO with elinzanetant versus placebo at that timepoint, and an overall 18% greater reduction across the full 12-week treatment period in a post hoc model accounting for night-to-night variability.10
