The healthcare sector is among the top 3 industry adopters of the iPad, according to new data.

The healthcare sector is among the top 3 industry adopters of the iPad, according to data from Good Technology, a provider of multiplatform enterprise mobility in Redwood City, California.

Good Technology's user base includes more than 4,000 iPad customers who use from 1 to more than 1,000 such devices.

Observers suggest that hospitals have embraced the technology because of the weight, size, and limited battery life of older mobile devices. The device also is less expensive than some other technologies, such as "computers on wheels."

According to the data, the financial services sector accounted for 36% of iPad use, followed by the technology sector at 11%, and the healthcare industry at 10%.
