Physicians continue to press for federal tort reform
Although Republicans now outnumber Democrats in the Senate, gaining the number of votes needed to pass a federal cap on non-economic damages in medical malpractice cases remains a challenge. There are 53 votes that the medical community can count on to pass such tort reform at the federal level, but 60 votes are needed to get the legislation to the floor, according to Modern Healthcare (11/29/04).
