Previewing women's health regulatory updates and conferences in the 2nd half of 2026
A look ahead to the second half of 2026 for ob-gyns, including Viatris's pending FDA decision on a low-dose estrogen contraceptive patch and previews of the IDSOG, AUGS PFD Week, and The Menopause Society annual meetings.
We're officially at the halfway point of the year, and the back half is shaping up to be just as active as the first for women's health. Below, the Contemporary OB/GYN team looks ahead to a pending FDA decision in the contraception space, along with the leading medical society meetings on the calendar for the remainder of 2026.
Regulatory decisions
Low Dose Estrogen Weekly Patch for Contraception (Viatris)
PDUFA: July 30, 2026
Indication: Contraception in women of childbearing potential
Viatris's investigational low-dose estrogen combined hormonal contraceptive (CHC) weekly patch has a scheduled regulatory decision this summer.1 The once-weekly transdermal patch is being developed for women of childbearing potential with a BMI below 30 kg/m² who are appropriate candidates for combined hormonal contraception and who prefer a non-invasive, reversible option with a lower estrogen dose.1 The patch delivers approximately 150 mcg of norelgestromin and 17.5 mcg of ethinyl estradiol per day and is applied once weekly for 3 weeks, followed by a 1-week patch-free period, according to 2025 pipeline update from the company.1
Ahead of the PDUFA date, Viatris presented additional data on the patch at ACOG's 2026 Annual Clinical & Scientific Meeting in May. Six abstracts were presented covering the patch's contraceptive efficacy and safety, adhesion profile under normal and extreme conditions, pharmacokinetic data, and cycle control findings.2
