Policyholders of Darwin Professional Underwriters now have access to a new risk-reduction program for obstetricians. Under the program, policyholders have access to the underwriter's risk managers, who give feedback on the obstetric department's self-assessment results, identify issues related to obstetric claims, and share best practices. There's also an education piece, licensed from Mutual Insurance Co. of Arizona, comprised of three modules: (1) an overview of specific obstetric management, such as shoulder dystocia and VBACs, (2) a review of fetal monitoring and documentation, and (3) risk management strategies. Policyholders who successfully complete the program receive premium reductions, reported Medical Liability Monitor (07/2007).
