Why's it so hard to get paid by insurers?
That's a question lots of physicians are asking these days. Although every state except South Carolina has a prompt-pay law, which requires insurers to pay claims in a timely manner, physicians are still trying to get paid. It's estimated that up to 35% of claims will never be collected, "even though physicians spend 10% of their revenue trying to collect those claims," according to American Medical News (6/19/2006).
