Physicians get ready for pay-for-performance programs
Pay-for-performance programs, which reward physicians for following "best practice" guidelines, are becoming a reality in medical care. The number of such bonus plans is expected to double over the next 2 years, according to The Wall Street Journal (12/15/04). Moreover, while these programs have initially focused on providing incentives to primary care physicians, they are expanding to include specialists like gynecologists.
