Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) introduced a bill that would require all health plans that cover prescription drugs to include coverage of FDA-approved forms of contraception. The Equity in Insurance and Prescription Contraceptive Coverage Act, S. 1214, would also ensure that contraceptive coverage would be provided equitably with other outpatient services.
Currently, equal access to contraceptive coverage is only available to participants of the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program. The bill has not yet been introduced in the House.
